Online education is general term which encompasses any kind of learning that is done exclusively online. Sometimes this learning is through free, self-study websites. Often, though, students learn through virtual universities such as the University of Phoenix and others. Many "land" universities also include online programs, sometimes called extension programs.

Online Degrees Change Education In The Modern World
By Ken McCauley
2007-07-25

Perhaps you have noticed: the educational world is in a state of great change. Decades ago, the accepted approach was for a student to graduate from high school and then enter the ranks of college and university students, stay in school until graduation, and then head out into the job market, degree firmly in hand.

All that has changed today. Often people will pursue military service. Perhaps they will fall in love at a young age and start a family. Perhaps they just did not feel ready for college when they were a high school graduate.

At some point in the future, however, a person recognizes the need for more educational training. But at that time in life, it seems like it is too late to pick up the pieces and go back to school. Family responsibilities, the care of elderly parents, and existing full-time job commitments make it impossible to devote several years to pursuing educational goals. Did you know that the average University student is much older ? Yes, it really is true: more than ever, people are going back to school later in life.

Some years ago, the University of Phoenix recognized the landscape of the traditional educational environment was changing fast, and they decided to do something about it. They redesigned their educational offerings to allow people with busy lives and commitments to pursue degree coursework online. The folks at the University of Phoenix realize that most adults do not have the time to devote to extensive on-campus class attendance, so they have leveraged the power of the Internet to bring their classes to you.

So you are asking the obvious question: what

types of degree programs and courses does the University of Phoenix currently offer? Well, you can pursue coursework in Criminal Justice, Marketing, Management, Health Care, IT, Business, E-Commerce, Education. Of course, they are developing new programs all the time. It is worth noting: all of their instructors are themselves holders of Masters or Doctorate degrees.

Attending classes through the University of Phoenix, it is actually possible to earn a degree in 2-3 years. And yes, financial aid IS available (for those students who qualify). They offer non-degree programs as well as programs leading to the Bachelor's and Master's degree. Most classes are held on nights and weekends, and major assignments can be completed then as well, so as to minimize disruption to your weekday schedule.

One of the very best things about working with the University of Phoenix is that when you contact them with more information, they will assign a real, live human being as your contact resource person. This person will answer any questions that you might have about the program, will help you to arrange payments for courses, and work with you to enroll in your first courses. They serve as a kind of "academic advisor" to help you get your educational pursuits into high gear.

So, my friend, let me ask you: Just what are you waiting for? You know, down deep in your heart, that you need more education - even your close friends and family have been telling you that, right? You have the need, certainly. The question is: do you have the drive - the desire to succeed - the need to improve yourself and your lot in life? If so, the University of Phoenix is the place to be!
